Outdoor Fireplace Tools
Outdoor Fireplaces are growing in popularity. In addition to outdoor cooking in your outdoor kitchen, people are now adding outdoor fireplaces to their patio as well. Depending on the type of outdoor fireplace you purchase, you will need different fireplace tools.
Today we’re going to talk about common fireplace tools for your fireplace tool set. These include:
Shovels
A fireplace shovel does about what you think it would. It scoops out the cold embers and ash from the hearth of your fireplace. These are generally different from your average spade shovel, although they serve much the same purpose. Fireplace shovels fall more in the category of a scoop than a shovel, however.
Tongs
Tongs are among the most important tools in your fireplace tool arsenal. These are used for different jobs such as moving around the burning logs, maybe stirring up the fire a bit, or even grabbing that item you just dropped into the fireplace. They come in two types, as a set of claws, or as a more scissor type like grabber.
Broom
The functionality of your fireplace broom is pretty simple. It’s simply used to sweep up the ash and coals from the hearth and the grate. The broom’s bristles are a little hardier than your average brush or other fireplace tool as they are made to withstand the higher temperatures from the fireplace, with a longer handle to keep your hand away from the heat. The fireplace broom is more for general cleaning while the brush is used more to sweep away debris from the hearth.
Brush
Fireplaces brushes usually have short handles with metal bristles. This fireplace tool is simply made to clean up around the fireplace and get the stuck on debris (usually ash) off of the hearth.
Stand
While stands are often very elegant pieces of metal designed to simply hold your fireplace tools, they are quite functional. They are made to do a great job and hold your fireplace tools, but they are quite pleasing to the eye. Common materials that fireplace stands are made from include bronze, brass, iron, and stainless steel. You can even find them in silver and gold for a little more money.
Screens
Fireplace screens complement the stands well. These are also an aesthetically pleasing fireplace tool as well as being very functional as well. They serve to keep in the ash and other things such as sparks or shifting wood. They also keep things like pets and children out of the fireplace. They are often available in the same materials that fireplace stands are available in.
